Ashley

Ashley was picked up early the next morning in another limousine, just as luxurious as the one where she had gone down on Tim only two nights before. She felt a little guilty as the driver opened the door for her and she slid into the back seat, thinking of Tim.

He had been so sweet that morning. He had woken up long before her and had made all of her favorites for breakfast. Pancakes, sausage and eggs, over easy. Instead of making coffee, he had walked down to Starbucks and gotten her a large mocha.

He had everything laid out on the table when she came into the room. Every item spoke volumes about how well this man, this lovely man, knew her and loved her. Even though he wasn't exactly excited by this trip, he had done the one thing she needed him to do. He had showed her his love and support. She needed that now more than ever.

Still, it made her feel guilty all the same. Tim was all alone while she was living an adventure. It didn't seem fair.

It's good for us. She told herself. It will be hard, but it's worth it.

Finally, she was able to push the guilt to the back of her mind. She couldn't let her emotions stop her from doing her job.

The limo drove smoothly through the downtown streets. A light drizzle beading up on the windshield. The driver, a true Portlander, didn't even bother to turn on the wipers. They quickly left downtown and got on the highway to the airport.

They finally stopped, fifteen minutes later, at a small airfield next to the Portland Airport. One reserved for private jets and small, boutique airlines doing quick flights to Seattle for business people.

She was let on the plane with no checked baggage, no ID check. Just a polite woman in a blue stewardess uniform who led her, with an umbrella, out to Gideon's private plane.

Limos, private planes? Better be careful. Mr. Cole. I could get used to this.

She grinned at the thought, feeling like her life was just a little too unreal. Then, she stepped through the door into the main cabin and came face to face with Gideon Cole himself.

She felt a warm rush as Gideon’s intense, brown eyes looked over her, noticing her, admiring the new clothes that he himself had picked out.

“You look great!” Gideon said, not bothering with a formal greeting.

Ashley felt a rush of pleasure as she passed muster. She quickly squashed the feelings. Why was she feeling so proud of herself? Gideon Cole was a powerful man and her boss. That was no reason to go all giddy every time she saw him. He might be powerful, but he was still just a man. She wasn’t going to be cowed by him so easily.

“Well, you should know.” She smiled, taking his hand and giving him a very firm, very professional handshake. “I wonder? Did you dress Richard too?”

She expected a blush or a self-conscious smile. Instead, she got a broad grin.
